Isla Canela Old (Spain)
Isla Canela Golf course is situated within a Nature Reserve where the river Guadiana empties into the Atlantic Ocean. Its beautiful location and the mild climate of the region make it an ideal destination for golfing all year around.
The golf course, designed by Juan Catarineu, is successfully integrated into existing flat terrain and is very comfortable to walk. Wide fairways run between natural dunes and many trees - oranges, olives, eucalyptuses and palms- have been introduced not only to enhance the location but, by their position, to provide natural hazards. At first sight it looks like an easy golf course, but it has its hidden difficulties.

Challenging front 9 holes with tight narrow fairways provides a mental battle for predominantly long drive specialists.
Back 9 presents its own challenges with tiered and well protected greens.
Mature Course in good condition, well presented traditional clubhouse.

A nice warm welcome from the staff member at reception. The course though was a little disappointing. The layout wasn't very interesting and the condition of the course was below average.

I must mention the greens first as they were immaculate. It wasn't a very windy day but there still seemed a bit of a breeze on the course. If I returned to this area I'd definitely play it again.

A very enjoyable experience. It started with a warm welcome in the pro shop reception. The course was in good condition except the greens had recently been treated. We still had an enjoyable round of golf just under 4 hours. We would certainly return here.
